Figure of 8 Across the Chilterns - 80KM
This ride loops around Princes Risborough, with each loop about 40km. See how the first half goes, and if you are feeling fit do the second half. Covers a range of countryside from the wide open views over Stokenchurch hill towards Oxford, and back over Caddesdeb hill towards the Prime Ministers residence at Chequers. Take lunch at Princes Risborough or Great Missenden. Both have a COSTA incase you get thirsty. The Plough at Caddesden is good for a drink or meal - right in the heart of the countryside.
Challenging 60km ride taking in many popular Chiltern villages & hills
The popular St George's Sportives have been running for many years now, with the routes winding down largely small leafy lanes which are quite quiet from traffic. The shorter route will run through the picturesque villages of Bledlow (home of Lord Carrington), Radnage nestled on the hill-side, |Frieth which it's ancient pubs, past Benson which has a fantastic cafe overlooking the Thames, and over Christmas common famous for bluebells in the woods and where the M40 traverses the ridgeway. The St Georges Sportive web site has 3 routes for consideration.
The Chilterns 100
Human Race are proud to have the Chiltern 100 Sportive as part of the Human Race Sportive Series. One of the highest rated major sportives in the UK, the event still maintains a club-like atmosphere and camaraderie. The challenging landscape of the Chilterns means that the 76 mile and 110 mile routes are as testing as they are stunning, both taking in infamous climbs such as Whiteleaf Hill and Wardrobes. The event will be delivered in partnership with VCC, the club who set it up eight years ago and made it the esteemed sportive it is today. Prostate Cancer are the official charity for the Chiltern 100 Sportive. Donate or fundraise £50 or more and receive a free gourmet burger and drink on event day!
Chilterns Leg Crusher
My favourite route in a short or long version, taking on the most iconic climbs in this area of the Chilterns, including Peters Lane & Kop Hill - both ridden during the recent Tour of Britain. Fast descents of Chinnor Hill & Cryers Hill (on the long option) and the cruel Aston Hill climb with a descent back down the twisting A40. This ride will earn you kudos with any knowledgeable riders and allow you to see some of the most breath-taking views from your vantage points high in the Chilterns.
Phoenix Trail Family day out
The Phoenix Trail is extremely popular with walkers, horse riders and cyclists alike. The Phoenix trail connects the towns of Princes Risborough and Thame, and is an old railway line. Along the way there is a country pub at Towersey, sculptures marking every mile or so, and of course the popular market towns of Thame and Princes Risborough to explore. Perfect for families with small children or riders not wanting to face traffic. There is a small section of road (1 mile) to navigate from Princes Risborough station car park to the start of the Phoenix Trail.
Princes Risborough map & off-road routes
This excellent leaflet contains loads of useful local information including town maps and local bridleways which are great for off-roading.
The Chilterns Cycle Way
The Chilterns Cycleway is a 170 mile circular cycle route through the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, taking in the best of the Chilterns scenery. The route is mainly on-road and is signposted throughout.
See historic villages and lively market towns, stop at one of the many country pubs or National Trust properties along the route or simply enjoy the wonderful views. The Chilterns Cycleway passes through Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, taking in some of the best landscapes in these counties.
Bledlow Circular Ride
Bledlow is a small & ancient Hamlet which can be accessed exiting from the Phoenix Trail at Sandpit Lane. On this ride you will experience some of the famous Chiltern Hills, the thatched cottages of Bledlow and a stretch of the medieval Icknield way which runs for over 80 miles along the ridgeway. Bledlow is home to the Lyde Garden (a secret garden open to the public), the family home of Lord Carrington, and the Lions Pub with amazing views over the Chilterns.
